Hurricane Helene Response & Resources
Our REsponse & Resources
Daily Grounding & Check-In sessions via zoom
As we enter the second stage of recovery (and as more and more of us have cell service and wi-fi access returning), the adrenaline is running out and exhaustion is setting in. For many of us, depression can begin to begin or increase as well; we are more on edge, more reactive, maybe we are struggling with insomnia or dissociation. This is all normal. We would like to resource you with some tools to help strengthen, soothe and regulate as we continue in our recovery journey.
Weekday mornings at 8am, you are invited to join Elizabeth on Zoom for an internal check-in and a few minutes of breathing, meditation, and/or grounding to prepare ourselves for the day ahead. Those who wish to stay online for a longer, interpersonal check in are invited to do so. The zoom link can be found on our calendar here.
Weekday evenings at 8pm, you are invited to join Elizabeth on Zoom for a check in and some somatic self-soothing, meditation, regulating, and/or relaxing (or whatever else the people assembled need). Those who wish to stay on longer to debrief, kvech, cry, give gratitude, or just be present with others are invited to do so, those who want to leave are welcome to do so. This zoom link can also be found on our calendar here.
Emotional, Spiritual & Material Support
We're here for each other. We're here for you.
Rev. Elizabeth is trained in trauma-informed chaplaincy, which means they have been trained to listen compassionately with attention to trauma and the intersecting identities people hold. If you need support or need resources to support yourself or someone else, do not hesitate to reach out via email or the chat function on this site.
We also have access to small amounts of funds through our community, our larger church body and Lutheran Disaster Response. If you have material needs, please let us know and we can either help you directly or connect you with someone who can help.
other Resources
There are SO MANY places to receive help, so many that need money, and so many places to volunteer, we are going to put some collections here that have been compiled by trusted community members. We post regular needs lists and updates on our instagram stories, so for up-to date information, please follow us there and check out our stories.
As big supporters of mutual aid, we have been working with the following directly (along with some community centers with no web presence):
Rural Organizing and Resistance (mutual aid to Marshall/Madison County): ROAR Instagram
Mutual Aid Disaster Relief : MADR Instagram
Beloved Asheville: website
We have been receiving money and support from Lutheran Disaster Response and distributing it to communities.
